Are you ready for some futuristic, sci-fi stuff? How about a world where your loved ones can live on forever as AI chatbots?
No, it's not a Black Mirror episode, it's real-life, thanks to HereAfter AI.
The idea of using AI to create an "afterlife" or digital version of a loved one may seem like something out of a sci-fi movie, but it's becoming a reality with companies like HereAfter AI. Founder James Vlahos created the "Dadbot" after recording his father's life story, jokes, and everything in between.
HereAfter AI allows users to:
Upload memories of themselves or loved ones
Those memories are turned into a "life story avatar" that can be communicated with by friends and family.
Unlike traditional forms of archiving memories, such as a photo album or social media profile, these avatars are dynamic and can be brought to life through text messages, audio, images, and video.
While it might sound like something out of a dystopian novel, users are loving the chance to re-experience the voices of their loved ones and discover new stories.
While the technology may provide comfort during the grieving process, there are concerns that it could keep people clinging to the past and prevent them from moving forward.
Clinical research fellow Dr. Kirsten Smith cautions that "proximity seeking" behaviors aimed at restoring a closeness with the deceased can be linked to poorer mental health outcomes and could prevent someone from forging a new identity or making new meaningful relationships.
So, while we may not be living in a sci-fi world just yet, it's a reminder to cherish the present with those we love before we turn to dust and pixels.
Poll of the Day ๐
Yesterday I asked if anyone of you thought that the SVP fiasco would affect investment in AI startups. The results were neck in neck with 54% saying that AI investment would slow down. Here are some comments from you all:
"I'm not sure about the investment, but I'm definitely moving my money to a mattress."
"I'm not worried about AI investment, I'm worried about my investment in the banks!"
"If the banks fail, maybe we can finally switch to a system of exchanging seashells and beads."
"As long as AI can't replace humans as the ones who make bad investment decisions, we're good."
"I don't know about investment, but AI could probably do a better job at running a bank than some of the current executives."

Regulations, Monopolies, and Cartels: The Real Obstacles to AI Taking Over the Job Market
Hey there, folks! Are you afraid that robots and AI are coming for your jobs? Well, fear not, because the real enemy here is... the government per Marc Andreessen! That's right, most of the economy is so heavily regulated that innovation and progress are basically forbidden. Just look at education, healthcare, and housing - their prices are going to the moon, even as we get flat-screen TVs that cover entire walls for a mere hundred bucks. As the regulated, non-technological sectors keep growing, the less regulated, tech-powered sectors shrink. So, don't worry about AI taking over your job just yet. The real battle is against the red tape and bureaucracy that's holding back innovation and progress. (Read More)
Manga meets machine: can AI be the future of comic creation?
Hold onto your peach, manga enthusiasts! Momotaro is back, but this time he's not fighting demons in ancient Japan. "Cyberpunk: Peach John" is a sci-fi manga that takes place in a dystopian future, and what's even cooler is that the AI system Midjourney created all the artwork. Rootport, the author, used text descriptions to generate the images he wanted, instead of spending years drawing by hand. Let's embrace the future of manga creation and see what new worlds and characters we can create! (Read More)
Move over Scrooge McDuck, AI's making more money than you
Hey there, high rollers! Get ready to place your bets because PwC is predicting that AI will be contributing a whopping $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030. That's right, trillion with a T! It's time to get in on the action and invest in the future of AI. So, who's feeling lucky? (Read More)
